Apprenticeship summary

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Take responsibility for maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of developments within the College and in the Further Education Sector to enable you to give information, advice and guidance to students.
  • Have a clear understanding of the roles of other Student Experience staff, curriculum teams, personal tutors, other support staff and external support agencies, and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Promote the College and its services and always present a positive customer- focussed image of the College.
  • Liaise with Careers and Curriculum staff to gather information about how Careers learning takes place within curriculum areas.
  • Signpost learners to access relevant careers resources to support career learning e.g. resources for CV writing and developing interview skills.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of skill in the use of the College’s electronic systems and databases, including those used for management information, the evidencing of Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Triage incoming emails to Careers Team Inbox(es)
  • Communicate with students regarding their progress on Career Learning activities via email, text and in person.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding student Engagement on college database (Navigate) to ensure timely tracking of student progress and support interventions.
  • Liaise with schools, colleges, universities, local service providers, employers and external agencies as required to help organise and deliver career learning events such as Career Fairs or guest speakers.
  • Review the engagement of students with college Careers programme, updating students & staff on progress/completion of tasks.
  • Assist students and staff with booking Careers meeting for students.
  • Embrace changes and new developments within the department to allow for changing business needs.
  • As part of the Careers Team, to undertake associated clerical or administrative duties.
  • Establish and maintain strong and effective working relations with teaching and support staff regarding the work of the Careers Team.

  • Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English
  • Institute of Apprenticeship Certificate

End-Point Assessment (EPA):

  • Knowledge test
  • Skills test
  • Oral questioning - underpinned by portfolio
